Construction Tips: Pattern Suggestions

Pevensies' Narnian clothes

There's a lot of overlap in what patterns can be used for what, and so for this reason patterns are grouped broadly by character. Under each individual pattern, the specific costumes are mentioned.

Sizes are given for all children's patterns

Susan's and Lucy's Narnian dresses

Lucy's Blue Dress, Susan's Green Archery Dress, Susan and Lucy's Coronation Gowns, Adult Queen Lucy, Adult Queen Susan

    Girls'/Children's Sizes

  • Mccalls 4599: Misses and Girls'. Princess seams, back lacing, notched scoop neck. View A excellent for Susan's Archery dress, and Lucy's Narnia dress with some adapting of neckline and sleeve. Sizes 3-8.
  • McCalls 5207: Girls' maiden costume, with princess seams and back lacing, with sleeve and neck variations. Variations of views A, B, and D work well for Susan's and Lucy's Coronation dresses (A, minus the lower sleeves, and B, respectively), Susan's Narnia dresses (D, minus the princess seam trim). Sizes 3-14.
  • McCalls 4620: Girls' witch costume, with princess seams and sleeve variations. Easily adapted to either Susan's or Lucy's Narnian dress and possibly Coronation gowns. Optional godets in the skirt for extra fullness. Sizes 3-16

  • Burda 2463: View A for Lucy's Coronation Gown.

  • Butterick 4435: Girls' pullover dress with back ties. Provides a good base for Lucy's non-princess seamed gowns, but lots of alterations neccessary. Sizes 7-16

  • Butterick 4436: Similar to pattern above, only in children's sizes 2-8

  • Simplicity 5520: Children's fantasy costumes. Adaptable for Lucy's Coronation Gown, Susan's Coronation Gown, or Lucy's blue Camp dress. Sizes 3-8.

    Misses' Sizes

  • Mccalls 4599: Misses and Girls'. Princess seams, back lacing, notched scoop neck. View A excellent for Susan's Archery dress, and Lucy's Narnia dress with some adapting of neckline and sleeve.
  • Butterick 4827: Misses' Medieval dress and belt. Princess seams with back lacing, long fitted sleeves. Great simple pattern for Susan's Archery Dress, needs little alterations.
  • McCalls 4889: Renaissance Costume. Princess seams with back lacing, empire waist and square notched neckline. Sleeves are perfect for Susan's Coronation Gown.

  • McCalls 4490: Misses' costume. Princess seams with back lacing, looks like a very full skirt. View C or D adaptable for Susan's Green Archery or Coronation gown.
Note: Users have recommended the next pattern over this one

  • McCalls 4491: Misses' costume. Princess seams with back lacing and sleeve variations, trained in back. Perfect for overdress of Susan's Coronation Gown.

  • McCalls 4340: Misses' costume. Without undersleeve, perfect for Lucy's Coronation Gown. Or without oversleeve, dress for Susan's Green Archery Gown. Princess seams and back lacing, under sleeve has gathering at inside of wrist.

  • McCalls 3653: Misses' costume. Princess seams with bateau neckline and sleeve variations. Adaptable for Lucy's or Susan's Narnian gowns.

  • Butterick 4598: Misses' dress. With a lot of work (extending and flaring the skirt, drafting an over sleeve, etc.) the neckline of view B and sleeves of C could be Lucy's Blue Camp dress

  • Simplicity 4940: LotR costume, adaptable for Susan's Coronation gown.

  • Simplicity 9891: Standard LotR costume, adaptable for ... most anything!

Particularly suited to Susan's Archery dress or Lucy's or Susan's Coronation gowns.
  • Simplicity 4508: Renaissance dresses. The sleeves of view B would be helpful for Lucy's Coronation gown (it's not so easy to find puffed sleeves in Misses' patterns!).
  • Butterick 4571: Medieval dress. Has a similar feel to Lucy's Adult Dress, though not the right seam lines.
