Lucy's Train Outfit

Traveling Coat and Dress

Worn on the evacuation from London

Image Scan from NarniaWeb.com - Georgie Henley Lucy's coat is made of houndstooth/tweed fabric - see an actual swatch below!

The coat is double-breasted with dark brown buttons, and in the trailer we see it has flap pockets at the waist and a tab across the back waist (see last two screencaps, below). Knee-length, it falls just above her dress hem.

Two beautiful rows of piping surround the rounded collar, cuffs, and pockets. The inner piping is hunter green, the outer a chocolate brown.

She wears a hat, a perky pillbox/beret, made of a mossy brown yarn (probably worsted weight wool) in what seems to be a puff, or popcorn, crochet stitch.

In the retracted image, we see a knee-length blue plaid dress with buttons at the center bodice is worn underneath the coat. Brown ribbed sweater cuffs peek through at her sleeves. On her feet are cream colored socks, folded over, under black leather Mary Janes.

Lucy's Coat Fabric Thistle Hill Weavers, a custom weaving mill business that has provided historic fabrics for the film, has pictures on their website of the original fabric used for Lucy's train coat. The beautiful houndstooth fabric has cream, green, burgundy, yellow and brown threads in it. We are contacting the company about this fabric's availability.

Making Lucy's Train Beret

If you're a beginning crocheter, this crocheted, single-stitch Basic Beret is wonderfully simple. The pattern is historical too (1936), which is a nice touch!

Philo has developed a pattern like the original; watch for posting.
